Winter weather takes it toll on Horse Racing again this week

Wednesday’s card at Plumpton has been cancelled due to a frozen track following an 8.30am inspection. Newbury was already called off so there will be no jumps racing in Britain for a second day running. Wolverhampton’s all-weather card goes ahead after the track passed a second precautionary inspection following overnight snow and they race at Southwell this evening on the Tapeta.

Thursday’s National Hunt meeting at Wincanton faces an 8am inspection on raceday with Ludlow already called-off for that afternoon due to a frozen track following an inspection on Wednesday morning. The card due to take place at Newcastle on Thursday was abandoned on Tuesday also for a frozen track - their Friday All-Weather meeting is still on at the moment. The start of the Winter Million Festival at Lingfield on Friday is also off with the Jumps course un-raceable. They are hopeful the All-Weather meeting on Saturday will go ahead. Talking of Saturday the Hurdles course is frozen in places as I write on Wednesday whilst Haydock is Heavy with Frost forecast for the next two nights.

The outlook is not good for the Jumps cards and dodgy for some of the All-Weather - I am reliably informed they do not have similar problems in Dubai and the Dubai World Cup Carnival meeting this Friday should be fine!
