Hands up I have been caught napping in this one but my fancy for the Winter Derby at Lingfield this weekend can be found below.
Group Three Winter Derby
The All-Weather race of the day is the 1m2f Group Three Winter Derby at Lingfield due off at 2.40. As touched upon earlier in the week Bangkok would have been my pick for this but with connections sending him to Riyadh last weekend, he won’t line-up. Felix became favourite almost by default, with Bangkok out, the pair closely rated after their last wo runs; the five-year-old may be flattered by his rating of 107 though. Johnny Drama flew up the ratings last back end with a run of four victories but was found out in the Listed Quebec Stakes in December. Forest Of Dean was third behind Felix and Bangkok on his last two starts, having been off the track since September 2019 prior to those runs earlier this year. Not beaten far in either of those races he has chances. The one for me though is lightly raced four-year-old Father Of Jazz. The colt has only run four times, three of them in the last three months, all victories on the All-Weather with bundles in hand each time. The son of Kingman trained by Roger Varian could be anything as they say and if you watch his win over track and trip here earlier this month again, he could easily have enough improvement in him yet to take this. At 7-4 he is the one for me to improve passed them all. Unfortunately I missed the 11-4 that I am told was about very early this week!
