Treasure Time Update 13th May 2024

Treasure Time was fourth at Newcastle on his three-year-old debut. All in all it wasn’t a bad run, he was unaffected by other horses playing up in the stalls which has to be seen as good news, and in my opinion in a relatively steady paced six-furlong, they went no pace early, he simply didn’t have the speed to stay with them when they turned the taps on and the six-furlong horses went away.

Cieren Fallon said after the race he felt he was a little ring rusty on his first start of the year, but well-behaved, with a nice attitude and that he travelled well. He did say the track was running quite deep and Treasure Time was backing off a little from the kickback. Fallon thought with a step-up in trip and perhaps a little give in the ground he would be a fun horse and signed off the debriefing adding “he will definitely win races”.

The post race report from the team at Somerville Lodge was pretty upbeat "Treasure Time is home safe and sound - and seems bright and happy. Our travelling groom and Cieren said the kickback was bad yesterday, which wasn't ideal, but he seems well today. We will get his opening handicap mark next Tuesday, so he will probably step into handicaps from now on."

He was a fast finishing second over seven at Kempton last season and seven-furlongs or a mile looks likely to be his game this year.

He will of course get an Official Rating now having had three runs and be able to go handicapping. I would expect somewhere in the 70’s all being well bearing in mind the form of the races he has run in and where some of those horses are now rated. Several from his debut run are rated in the 70’s and 80’s now, two over 100. Cynosure who he was ahead of at Kempton last back end is now rated in the 80’s and two others he was ahead at the Sunbury-on-Thames venue are in the 70’s. He had two rated 72 and 75 behind him on Sunday. Somewhere in the low 70's (high 60's would be nice) should be a ‘workable’ rating for the team at Somerville Lodge to make plans around and in William Haggas we trust; he does know a thing or two.
