The horse racing week ahead and the ante-post punt for the King George VI Chase
To start a quick look back at the weekend. A winning day for me, just about, at Lingfield on Saturday but it could have been better. Bangkok should've won the Listed Quebec Stakes in my opinion, he was slightly hampered in the finish but more importantly I think Probert was caught napping a bit and simply left him with too much to do, annoying, but that's racing I suppose. It could be a cracker of a re-match if the first three home all go to Finals Day next Easter.
As for this week it does naturally revolve around the Festive period and the Boxing Day meetings; the Grade One three-mile Ladbrokes King George VI Chase at Kempton being the dish of the day at 3.00. Clan Des Obeaux bids for to take the big race for a third time and it does look to be between him and his stablemate Cyrname, who he beat last year, but who looked at his best winning the Charlie Hall Chase on his reappearance. I said last year winning tipping Clan Des Obeaux to win 'Bottom line he has been there and done it and I think that means a lot in this race.' I stand by that statement for this year and with the pair available at 2-1 I am on the hat-trick seeker. He looked all over the winner in the 3m1½f Betfair Chase at Wetherby travelling smoothly two-out but started to tread water by the last and was simply out stayed on heavy ground. This track and trip suits him perfectly and I strongly fancy his chances on Boxing Day. Surprisngly last season's Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Santini has been supplemented in, I would suggest it simply aint a big enough test for him but as Henderson told reporters "When you're in Tier 4 you haven't got a lot to do and on Sunday afternoon a wild idea occurred to me. The Cotswold Chase is too far away. We discussed it last night and he’s so well in himself. I hope he’ll be a lot sharper than at Aintree. My worry is that Kempton isn’t an ideal track for a big galloping type like him, but there isn’t much else to do with him."
No bet for me today and tomorrow (Tuesday) is the only other day with Racing here in the UK pre-Christmas but nothing jumps off the cards at me so it's a quiet start to the week. There is a plethora of meetings as you would expect to come though and any further bets for Boxing Day and the weekend will naturally go up here on the site.
Be lucky
