The horse racing week ahead and a look back at the weekend

The week builds towards some big races on Saturday with Triple G favourite Bristol De Mai aiming for a hat-trick of G.1 Betfair Chase victories at Haydock. If that isn’t enough for you slightly earlier on the day we should have Altior lining up against Cyrname in the G.2 2m5f Christy 1965 Chase at Ascot.

Leicester has sadly been abandoned today and my fingers are crossed the weather doesn’t take much more of a toll this week.

Defi Du Seuil made a perfect start to his second season chasing at Cheltenham in the Shloer Chase with big targets now naturally being discussed. Trainer Philip Hobbs said: "I'm sure the two-mile route is the plan, but it is a flexible plan. We'll go to the Tingle Creek and take it from there. He has plenty of pace, but the softer ground would have helped today. He would go on any ground but, on good ground, two miles is less of a test of stamina."

Is he a Champion Chaser or a Ryanair winner in waiting? With Altior being tried over farther this season the Tingle Creek in three weeks time will likely tell us more and it is looking like being a cracker. Defi Du Seuil and Politilogue will face-off again whilst Un De Sceaux is due to come across the Irish Sea.

I have two or three punts planned this week all being well and they will of course be up here on Triple G first so please make sure you come back during the week.
