The horse racing week ahead and a bet in Germany Monday 24th May

It was a crap weekend for me, at least in regards to the horse racing, with just the one winner, Liberty Beach, on what turned out a tricky weekend for many; I can take some solace in the fact I know a few others who did their brains as well.

The silver lining to the weekend being Hornchurch F.C. winning the F.A. Trophy and the rip-roaring free scoring Hammers securing a Europa League spot finishing sixth in the Premier League – I did have a throw away tenner on Pablo Fornals to score anytime at 7’s in the 3-0 win over Southampton so at least some cash came back my way Sunday!

I was saddened to read this morning the legend that is Barney Curley has passed away at the age of 81. Love him or hate him, and he certainly divided opinion, he was one of racings great characters.

As for this week Windsor's fixture on Monday evening has been cancelled after the track failed a morning inspection. There are some big races at Longchamp and Cologne today and I am having a little flutter out in Germany.

Best bet for the horse racing at Cologne

The race in question is the Group Two mile 36th Mehl-Mulhens-Rennen - German 2000 Guineas at 12.23. I have taken the Evens this morning about Best Of Lips who warmed up for this winning a Group Three on good-soft last month in pretty nice style and won a G.3 as a two-year-old here over track and trip which is seen as a big positive.

Be lucky
