The horse racing week ahead

With the Jumps season coming to an end the Jockeys Championship looks to be destined for Harry Cobden as he enters the week eight ahead of Sean Bowen but it's not over just yet.

As for the Trainers Championship with just 23 wins on the board as of Monday morning Willie Mullins sits atop the table with just over £3 million pound of prize-money; confirming if needed just how dominate he has been at the big meetings and in the big races this season. Paul Nicholls and Dan Skelton could still catch him but you can expect a number of raiders to be coming over the Irish Sea in the coming days.

The jumps season finale is at Sandown on Saturday and the Championship could still be up for grabs; it will make for a fascinating days racing if it is. El Fabiolo and Gaelic Warrior feature among twenty-five entries for Willie Mullins at the meeting and he is 1-20 to become the first Irish-based trainer to win a British jumps championship since Vincent O'Brien.

With Guineas weekend the first week of May and the Trials for those races pretty much done and dusted The trials for the Derby begin and on Tuesday when Epsom hosts the 1m2f Listed Betfred Blue Riband Trial; Chief Little Rock currently heads the betting.

Arabian Crown looks a contender for Derby glory and he should run in the Group Three bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown on Friday. The Charlie Appleby-trained colt will potentially take on a strong field, including Macduff and Portland. It's a good card where they also host the Group Two bet365 Mile with Nostrum and Lord North entered and the Group Three bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes with Desert Hero a potential runner of the King. ITV Racing will have coverage.
