The horse racing week ahead

I had a stinker at the weekend with three bets placed on Saturday, all three losing. Spycatcher was beat a neck at Lingfield not quite being able to give the 4lb to Documenting. Defi Du Seuil was well beaten at Ascot and frankly looks a shadow of the horse he once was; Bristol De Mai was pulled-up at Haydock and a disappointment, he too may be passed his best now.

As for this week ahead, I have no bet planned for Monday but there is the possibility of a bet or two this week on the All-Weather so do check back. On Friday the rather grandly named Ladbrokes Winter Carnival begins at Newbury with the ITV cameras there to capture the action on Friday and Saturday.

On Sunday in the Land of the Rising Sun at Tokyo racecourse they host he Japan Cup. Contrail heads the entries as I write on Monday. The four-year-old of course completed the Japanese Triple Crown in 2020 and on home soil looks likely to be very short odds. Ballydoyle are sending a couple over in the shape of Japan and Broome. Aidan O'Brien said said last week "The Japan Cup is a very difficult race to win and always extremely competitive so the two horses will be up against it, but they left here this morning in good form and they are both going to run all being well. Yutaka Take will ride Japan and Ryan Moore will be on Broome."

Be lucky
