The horse racing week ahead

It is a pretty quiet week ahead for top-class horse racing with, in fact, the only Group 1 contest in Europe this week being the Prix Morny at Deauville on Sunday. There is plenty going on but most of the racing is best watched rather than punted in as far as I am concerned.

The few bets I will be having will, of course, be found right here on Girdys Gee Gees first. One colt has caught my attention, as connections appear desperate to get a win under his belt, and as he has three entries this week, depending which entry he takes up he could be a decent punt. There might be one to have a go at down my local track at Chelmsford on Friday as well so do check back as the week goes on.

Changes are afoot for the Cheltenham Festival with updated race conditions announced for the National Hunt Chase and a Mares’ chase to be introduced in 2021. You can read the full press release on the dedicated post.

Hot on the heels of last weeks Can you beat the Bookies with Lloyd Griffith this Monday evening we have the Panorama investigation titled Addicted to Gambling at 8.30pm. I quite enjoyed the Lloyd Griffith programme though didn’t learn anything new other than Courtsiders travel a lot more than I realised. I will watch the Panorama programme this evening but doubt I will learn anything new from this either the programme preview states ‘The amount we lose to the betting industry has almost doubled in a decade, but are the bookies doing enough to protect problem gamblers’.

You know what is coming, the story of a punter who ‘lost everything’ and a Bookmakers representative pointing out all the safer gambling measures the industry has rolled out in recent years with a very concerned and sincere looking journalist asking the questions.
