Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Ante-Post bet
I would argue the three biggest names Luxembourg, Alpinista and Adayar are among the twenty-seven remaining entries for the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after the first forfeit stage on Monday. Also still in for Sunday at this stage are last year’s winner Torquator Tasso,
Irish Derby winner Westover, Vadeni and Titleholder flying the flag for Japan.
It appears the money is coming for Alpinista and as she is the one I fancy the most I have taken the plunge at the 6-1 that is available on Monday lunchtime about the mare; she's getting shorter. I am a huge fan of the grey mare and she has won me a few quid in her career, a career that includes five G.1s in a row all over Europe, as part of a seven-race unbeaten run, and she has been aimed at this race all year. She goes on any going so the threat of rain is of little concern for her; the forecast suggests rain every day this week, especially heavy Wednesday and Thursday, and even on the weekend across the Channel. A homebred for Kirsten Rausing the daughter of Frankel seems to me to be getting better and better as she matures. Sir Mark Prescott’s assistant William Butler said in an interview back in July "We're working back from the Arc. It came at the wrong time in her programme last year so we decided it would be the Arc this year." and I think their patience can be rewarded.
I am of course on Adayar each-way for the Champion Stakes and all the rain forecast for Longchamp means the chances of him going Ascot and missing the Arc this season grow bigger every day. Luxembourg gets the weight-for-age but I think is favourite on reputation as much as for what he has actually achieved thus far.
Be lucky
