Oisin Murphy stood down at Newmarket after failing breath test

Champion jockey Oisin Murphy has been stood down and cannot ride at Newmarket on Friday after failing a breath test for alcohol.

The Jockey Tweeted on Twitter: "I was requested to take a breath test at Newmarket today. I blew under the drink drive limit but over the riding limit. I’m sorry to all the people I’ve let down today. I take full responsibility. I will be riding tomorrow."

In fairness the alcohol limit for jockeys to ride is, I am told, 17 micrograms per 100ml of breath which is below the Driving limit in the UK which I am told is 35 micrograms per 100ml so it wasn't as if he was hammered!

It's another whoops moment for the Champ having previously failed an alcohol test and been stood down at Salisbury in 2019; he was of course more famously/infamously (delete as you see appropriate dear reader) suspended for three months earlier this year ( 11th December 2020 to 11 March 2021) after testing positive for metabolites of cocaine in a drugs test taken in France in back in July 2020.

The twenty-six-year-old is a great jockey and you hope he will, sooner rather than later, stop making what appear to be little more than daft errors of judgement. I get it, I'd be a nightmare if I was young handsome and talented (never been the last two) I'd be out and living life to the maximum at every opportunity but these stories will haunt him if they keep cropping up.
