Merchant Navy retired to Stud

Diamond Jubilee Stakes winner Merchant Navy will not now run in the July Cup as had been hoped and will be returning to the land down under having been retired to stud. Having moved to Ballydoyle with the big sprint his target he won on debut at the Curragh before the Royal meeting triumph where he was ridden by Ryan Moore in the six-furlong Group One sprint winning by a short head in a cracking finish. Job done he is off to sow his seed as they say.

Coolmore tweeted earlier: “Dual G1 winning #RoyalAscot hero Merchant Navy (Fastnet Rock) has been retired and arrived @coolmorestud this morning where he will enter quarantine before travelling to @CoolmoreAus where the world-class sprinter will cover an outstanding first book of mares #CoolmoreSires.”
