Jockey Club announces the Guineas and Derby meetings to be held later in the season

And so, as I and no doubt many of you feared, the first four Classics of the British Flat horse racing season will be delayed and staged later in the season. The announcement was made by the Jockey Club on Tuesday afternoon.

The Qipco 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas, the Investec Oaks and Derby are all to be held, all being well, at a later date. The dates will apparently be announced after the suspension of British racing is lifted by the BHA. All British racing is currently suspended until at least 1st May due to the coronavirus pandemic and this announcement does not fill me with hope we will be racing again then!

As I mentioned in a previous post, truth be told, it doesn't really matter in a situation such as we find ourseleves in. Sport is really nothing more than an escape for most of us, taking us away for a few excited moments from the run of the mill, day-to-day, grown-up serious stuff.

For now, stay healthy, please stay home and be lucky
