Horse racing news Monday 1st July 2019

There is some cracking racing to look forward to later in the week. Sandown hosts the Coral Eclipse Stakes in which we may get out first glimpse this season of Enable, Haydock has the Lancashire Oaks and Too Darn Hot may make the trip across the channel for the Qatar Prix Jean Prat at Deauville.

As for the weekend just gone, Colin Keane is saying Siskin is the best two-year-old he has ever sat on following the colts impressive G.2 Railway Stakes win at the Curragh. Khalid Abdullah-owned colt stretched his unbeaten record to three and looks decent. Talking of the Curragh Ballydoyle were at it again with Sovereign a surprise 33-1 winner of Saturday's Irish Derby, jockey Padraig Beggy riding his first winner of the season! I for one cannot believe how much of a lead Moore onboard Anthony Van Dyck allowed the supposed pacemaker to get and the Derby winner was a running-on but distance second. Padraig Beggy was the toast of the Bookmakers again (won at Epsom on 40-1 chance Wings Of Eagles in 2017) but I think it is fair to say Ballydoyle aren’t making many friends with the punters these ‘outsiders’ winning the big races and I have seen more than a few threads over the weekend in which Ryan Moore is getting slated online.
