Dubai Future Champions Festival at Newmarket day one best bets

It is the Dubai Future Champions Festival on Friday and Saturday over at HQ with some cracking racing to enjoy at Newmarket on the Rowley Mile. Friday has five Group races on the card including the Group One bet365 Fillies' Mile.

They get underway at 1.50 with the 5f Group Three Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes. I put up Lazuli when he won the 6f British Stallion Studs EBF Conditions Stakes at Doncaster last month having caught my eye winning on debut at Newmarket over six prior to that in August. Also entered in the Listed Rockingham Stakes at York on Saturday here comes here instead and I have the 9-2. The other Godolphin runner Platinum Star is the obvious danger.

At 2.25 we have the 7f Group Three Godolphin Lifetime Care Oh So Sharp Stakes. I have had Final Song pencilled in on the shortlist for a couple of races recently and the Godolphin filly lines-up for this one. I have happily taken 2-1 as she has form on ground with soft in the description and she is fancied following a 91-day break; she was also entered in the G.1 Bert365 Fillies Mile on Saturday and 6f Listed Rockingham Stakes at York

They line-up for the 7f Group Two Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes at 3.00. The lightly raced 3yo Mohaather was on the shortlist but does not run. I can't split those that do so I am not betting in the race.

The Group One bet365 Fillies' Mile is due off at 3.35. Quadrilateral headed in the market in the run-up and still does. This is a big step up but she looks a good'un and is fancied to cope with the step up to 1m for the first time. She won her her maiden on debut at Newbury on good-soft then followed up in a Conditions event pulling nine lengths clear of the rest. I have the 2-1.

The lucky last at 5.20 is the Group Three Darley Pride Stakes over 1m2f. Fanny Logan is short at 6-5 but she has racked up a three-timer since the hood went on - worn again - winning her last three outings in Listed company. Softer ground is of no concern and she looks a solid bet.

Be lucky
