Day Two Investec Derby Festival 2017 Best Bets For Derby Day At Epsom

It’s Derby Day! There are many imitators but there is only one true DERBY!

I have dealt with the Derby on the Classic page; I am on Dubai Thunder each-way at 20-1; they face the starter at 4.30. It is wide open this year to my eyes and hopefully the Godolphin colt will be in the mix at the very least; they got the rain on Friday which will help.

The Group Three Princess Elizabeth Stakes is the first heat of interest to me at 2.35. Laugh Aloud has been jolly in the run-up and will be fairly short. I have spoken before about Urban Fox and she has been mixing it with some of the best from day one – tipped on here each-way when 2nd in the G.3 Dubai Duty Free Stakes and she was far from disgraced when eighth in the Guineas. She has plenty of decent place form at higher levels than this and at 12-1 looks an each-way punt to me

It’s the Group Three Diomed Stakes at 3.10 could be a cracker but I honestly can’t split half the field and will watch rather than punt. The Dash is at 3.45 on reputedly the quickest five furlongs in the world! It looks fiercely competitive again and is another race I can make a case for half the field in.

Sticking with the Derby theme on Sunday we have the Qipco Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) at Chantilly.  French 2000 Guineas winner Brametot is the headline act for the race. The colt, trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, is co-owned by Al Shaqab Racing who were also going to run Al Wukair but that colt will miss the race due to a minor setback. .Andre Fabre, trainer of Al Wukair, still has Waldgeist and Plumatic in the field. British hopes rest with the William Haggas-trianed Rivet, who was third in the French 2000 Guineas, and the Godolphin-owned D'Bai and Bay Of Poets from the Charlie Appleby stable. Aidan O'Brien has three in the field - Orderofthegarter, Taj Mahal and War Decree. Orderofthegarter stayed on under pressure final furlong to finish fifth in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (tipped on here) and is 14’s for this which I think is big! The colt should have no problems getting the 1m2f and I would advise and each-way punt.

Be lucky
