The plan was to go for the 1m4f Chester Vase originally but Wirko was sent for that, tipped on here but having looked to be going well faded in the final furlong into fourth, but I am not put off that Yibir stays at the shorter trip here; perhaps even encouraged. I tipped him for the 1m2f Group Three bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown last month when he was third. He went well in front for a long way and ultimately wasn’t beaten far and it certainly would have blown away the cobwebs. He is fitted with the cheek pieces for the first time and could very well get an easy lead which should suit nicely. I have 7-4.  

Japan should in theory win the 1m5f Group Three tote+ Pays You More At tote.co.uk Ormonde Stakes at 3.15 but is priced accordingly at around Evens and quite honestly, I cannot take that short a price about the five-year-old who has got in the habit of running okay but getting beat. The step-up in trip may help his chances. 2019 winner Morando has to be shortlisted but hasn’t won in a while either. Trueshan progressed into a decent stayer last season ending the campaign with an impressive win in the two-mile G.2 Long Distance Cup at Ascot – Morando fourth. Has the extra 5lb to shoulder here for that win but still relatively lightly raced five-year-old he may progress further again this year and he will stay. The rain that has been about hasn’t hurt his chances either with the chance of a shower or two on Thursday as well. Hollie Doyle rides again and I am on at the 5-2 overnight.
