Chester Boodles May Festival - Day Three

Day three up on the Roodee and so far this week I have had one winner, two losing bets, second and third, and a non-runner from four bets. I fancy two on Friday and have snaffled the overnight prices.

Best bets day three of the Chester Boodles May Festival

Sadly, the Group Three Huxley Stakes is down to four runners and no betting heat as far as I am concerned and I can make a case for too many in the Chester Cup so I am leaving the main races of the day alone.

The 5f Boodles Secret Garden Conditions Stakes at 3.45 is going to be all about who breaks best I would suggest and with Kings Lynn in stall one Flaming Rib has a great chance to crack out, grab the rail, and lead every yard. You can ignore his run in the G.3 Greenham Stakes last time, all that did was confirm he doesn’t stay seven furlongs and this sharp five will suit better. As a three-year-old he gets weight off of the rest of the field to varying degrees, a massive 9lb from the Queens horse, and that is a big advantage. He won a Nursery here over six last year as a two-year-old so the tight turns hold no fears and I am on at the standout 100-30 with Paddy Power overnight. Having been second in this last year the aforementioned Kings Lynn is the danger.

The 1m4f White Oak Apprentice Handicap is a race I'd often ignore but if one has a chance and has a decent apprentice on it I don’t mind a bet and there is one in here that ticks both boxes. Scampi was consistent all last season and perhaps unlucky not to win one or two, he paid for that consistency with his handicap mark edging up. He finally got a well-deserved victory last time at Wolverhampton, winning actually a shade cosily. The four-year-old is back handicapping here but only up 1lb in the ratings for that cosy win and looks on a fair mark of 78 and Harry Davies takes off 5lb with his claim. The gelding likes to race handily which is no bad thing here and though stall 11 aint great, hopefully can get into a nice spot early and take this up as they come off the final bend. I have a bit of the 4's with Power, unusually biggest again, and hopefully he can pay for a chippy tea!

Be lucky
