Chester Boodles May Festival - Day One

No sooner are the Guineas done and dusted and we are on to Chester for their Boodles May Festival on the Roodee and into the Derby and Oaks Trials. It truly is a racetrack like no other and as I have said before if you have never been, when you can, get yourself up there. I fancy two on day one.

Best bets day one of the Chester Boodles May Festival

First race of interest to me at the Boodles May Festival is the Weatherbys ePassport Cheshire Oaks over 1m3f at 2.15. Some potentially decent fillies' line-up not least Zeyaadah defending her an unbeaten record but she has a habit of blowing the start and if she does that here it’s goodnight nurse especially out of stall 7. I like the chances of Dubai Fountain at 5-2, I missed the better early prices. As you might expect with a Mark Johnston runner, she doesn’t lack experience after a busy two-year-old campaign and signed off her campaign with an excellent fourth in the G.1 Fillies' Mile at HQ. She doesn’t mind front running which is no bad thing here and I think will get the trip.

It appears there has been a slight change of plan by Charlie Appleby as Wirko now goes in the Group Three Chester Vase at 3.15 over 1m4f and Yibir appears likely to run in the Listed Dee Stakes later in the week; an interview he gave last week suggested the plans were the other way round. Anyhow Epsom’s Listed 1m2f Blue Riband Trial winner Wirko runs on Tuesday and with Sir Lamorak now not running looks a pretty solid bet at the 2-1 which I have overnight. The Kingman colt clocked a fast time when winning at Epsom and the step-up in trip looks sure to suit.

Be lucky
