Best bets for the horseracing Wednesday 13th December 2023

It is a dull and dreary Wednesday down at Triple G Towers but hopefully I have a winner up my sleeve for later today to lift the gloom.

Best bets for the horseracing at Kempton Park

I tipped Symbol Of Power on debut at Newmarket in September when he was green as grass and finished sixth. A son of Frankel out of the Pivotal Listed winning mare Tulips he is a full-brother to G.1 winner Wild Beauty and half-brother to three other winners. The snips have been reached for so he arrives for the 7f Unibet/British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at 5.30 slightly lighter and surely there is more to come from him; cheekpieces are on. This looks a fair race but at 7-2 I am prepared to give him a second chance. Rascal Recknell looks the biggest danger off the back of his decent looking third at Sandown on his debut.

I mentioned earlier in the week that I would be interested in the Listed Wild Flower Stakes at Kempton Park at 7.30. We have a couple of eye-catching entries from Godolphin in the shape of multiple Group One winner Rebels Romance, having last been seen finishing fourth in the G.1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes at Belmont Park in October along with Goldspur who hasn't been seen since April 2022 when third behind Westover in the G.3 bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown. Rebels Romance is rated 13lb higher than the rest of the field and should win hard held and is priced accordingly. Goldspur is available at 12-1 and I wouldn't be surprised if a few each-way shrewdies are on him. Charlie Appleby said on the Godolphin website “Rebel’s Romance found the ground against him on his latest start in the Joe Hirsh Turf Classic and we know that he is a better horse on a sounder surface. He is proven on the all-weather and around Kempton, while his preparation has gone well. He looks great and, if the Rebel’s Romance that we know turns up, he will be hard to beat" He added “Goldspur has been off the track for a while, but all of his prep work has been good. He went away for a racecourse gallop, so hopefully fitness shouldn’t be too much of an issue. We are hopeful of a good run with a potential view to taking him out to Dubai afterwards.” It's a race to watch rather than punt in with the Dubai Carnival meeting in mind as both the Moulton Paddocks runners will likely be off to warmer climes after this run.
