Best bets for the horseracing Friday 2nd February 2024

Just the one bet for me so far this week, a loser at Chelmsford City yesterday evening. There is another meeting out in Dubai at Meydan this afternoon as the Dubai Carnival continues its way towards Dubai World Cup night. There is just the one Group race this week but it is still a decent card ay Meydan and those two Charlie Appleby and William Buick look to have several good chances. They'll  be short prices so you may want to consider a multiple of some type. They also race in Bahrain and there is a Listed heat there I want to get involved with. My five fancies for Friday follow.

Best bets for the horseracing at Bahrain

My main focus is on Meydan today but just around the corner, or just across the Persian Gulf if you have a boat, they race in Bahrain where the Listed 1m2f His Royal Highness Prince Salman Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup at 12.45 our time is the race of the day. Recent Meydan winner Local Dynasty has been sent on a day trip, Tom Marquand booked to ride, and is of interest. Charlie Appleby said on the Godolphin website “Local Dynasty put up a good performance over this distance at Meydan and it was always the plan to head for this race afterwards. He looks in good order and hopefully the track there will suit.” Local Dynasty impressed on his Meydan debut as he kicked clear to score by three and a quarter lengths. The Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old displayed a high level of juvenile form in the UK, winning a Pontefract Listed race, and made the frame in major handicaps at Royal Ascot and Newmarket’s July Festival last season. None of the Bookies have chalked-up so grab what you can when you can.

Best bets for the horseracing at Meydan

The first race I am involved with is the 7f Jumeirah Fillies Classic over 7f at 2.40. Cinderella’s Dream is unbeaten in two career starts, having overcome signs of inexperience at Lingfield Park before a comfortable success at Thirsk. The fact that William Buick has picked her rather than Beautiful Love, who was fourth in a Listed heat at HQ when last seen, suggests she is fancied by the team at Moulton Paddocks and I think she can leave her current mark of 83 well behind as this season progresses. I have the 5-6

The 6f Dubai Sprint Listed Stakes at 3.50 can go to Mischief Magic. The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint back in 2022 never reached the heights expected last season but should prove too quick for this field. His trainer Charlie Appleby said this week “Mischief Magic came out of the Ertijaal Dubai Dash well and coming back to six furlongs should play to his strengths. I feel he should be a big player.” I am on at 7-4

The race of the day is the 1m2f Group There Dubai Millennium Stakes at 4.25. The royal blue silks of Godolphin have been carried to victory in nine of the ten editions of the mile and a quarter turf contest, including the last six renewals, most notably by multiple G.1 winners Ghaiyyath and Ottoman Fleet. Runner-up in the 2022 G.1 St Leger, New London kicks off his five-year-old season following a quiet 2023 that consisted of just three runs. After coming home third behind Kemair in a Newmarket Listed race, New London finished fifth in the G.1 Grosser Preis von Berlin before going down by a head in another Listed race at Newmarket in late September. Charlie Appleby told the Godolphin website “We are hoping the dropping back to a mile and a quarter is going to suit New London. His preparation has gone well and he looks great. This race has always been the plan for him and, if you take the best of his three-year-old form, he looks a serious contender." Evens is short enough but I am on.

Legend Of Time looks a good thing in the mile Jumeirah Guineas on the Turf at 5.35 but is priced accordingly and left alone.

First Sight
makes a first Meydan appearance in the closing nine-furlong turf handicap at 6.10, having won three of his five starts in the UK. Gelded over the winter a mark of 95 requires a career best effort but the son of Dubawi should have more to offer yet. I have 6-4 this morning. Laser Guided can win some more prizemoney.

Be lucky
