Best bets for the horse racing Wednesday 9th August

Following the quiet start to the week things start to warm-up a bit over the coming days – that wasn’t an intentional pun about the heatwave but turned into one reading this back before publishing. It’s warm and getting warmer over the coming days so you can expect a number of small fields again with the heat in mind and with fast going likely to be everywhere. I fancy two on Wednesday.

Best bet for the horse racing at Yarmouth

The race of interest to me by the seaside is the 7f British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at 2.20. Modern Dancer made a winning debut for Charlie Appleby back in June up at Doncaster over 7f despite looking somewhat green at times. He has to give his rivals 6lb here but the fact he won despite greenness speaks volumes and you would expect improvement from this son of Kingman. Being by Epitome he is a half-brother to nine winners, all rated 80+, including Group winners Ultra and Synopsis. I have ear'ole 6-4 overnight. Seeking Gold was second on his debut and the third and fourth have both come out and won since so he looks the obvious danger.

Best bet for the horse racing at Kempton

The race that interests me on the Polytrack is the 5.40 7f Unibet/British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes. I didn’t tip Creative Style on debut at HQ over 6f but did mention the race back in May as one to watch as Godolphin had three entered, all making debut, Mawj won and this one was last. She was all over the place that day, not great out the stalls and looking green as grass before beaing eased. She’ll surely improve on that performance, there are winners in the family, but it is noted her half-brother Welcome Surprise wasn’t much good and in what looks a fair Novice Stakes she is best watched for now. Quantum Light was third on her debut behind two experienced rivals at Ascot over 6f last month despite being keen and looked like one to watch. There is a lot to like about the breeding, she is by Kodiac out of the unraced mare Emeriya but she’s from a good family and there are plenty of winners through the bottom line in this one pedigree.  She is short also at 5-4 but I have that overnight and won't be surprised if she goes off odds-on.

Be lucky
