Best bets for the horse racing Wednesday 3rd February 2021
Probably no great surprise that the bet today go on the All-Weather at the evening meeting at Kempton Park. The afternoon meeting at Lingfield looks a punting minefield with a bunch of tricky handicaps whilst I am steering clear of Warwick on what will be very heavy going after they passed an inspection on Tuesday afternoon’ at least they race!
Best bet for the horse racing at Kempton
I have put up a few debutants from the Charlie Appleby yard down the years and it’s another nicely bred newcomer from Moulton Paddocks that I wanted to bet on Wednesday in the shape of Echo Point. He is a three-year-old chestnut gelding by Dubawi out of Yodelling and he is due to run in the Try Our New Price Boosts At Unibet Novice Stakes over a mile at 4.55. Sire needs little introduction, the mare won a couple of races as a two-year-old for Appleby, both here at Kempton, and is a half-sister to three other winners, Whispering Gallery, Eavesdropper and Sound Reflection who were all 100+ rated in their day. He has a full-brother the previous foal from this coupling called Chosen Star, who was a handicap winner for the Queen last season as a four-year-old. For me he is the most the most appealing on paper here with those that have run before hardly catching the eye but the old Bookies aint taking a chance and he is odds-on for his belated debut - I can't back him at the price but do advise you watch and make sure the name is in your notebook.
Later on the card at 7.00 we have the 6f Unibet New Instant Roulette Handicap. Twilight Madness won over track and trip 9-days ag looking to have more than a bit left in the tank and a 6lb rise in the ratings looks unlikely to hinder him if in the same mood; due to rise another 4lb after this. Hollie Doyle rides again which has to be seen as a positive at the moment and the small yard of Simon Hodgson over in Winchester has been punching above its weight for a few weeks now. I have the 6-5 about the chestnut.
