Best bets for the horse racing Wednesday 16th August

I mentioned at the start of the week that Salisbury has it's moment in spotlight with a couple of Listed races and two Group Three heats midweek and I am having a bet at the Cathedral City track over in Wiltshire today.

Best bets for the horse racing at Salisbury

I have talked of Arabian Crown on both his starts to date. He was unbackable opening odds-on on debut at Sandown and got turned over anyway (drifted in the betting slightly) and I then tipped him back in Esher when he won a 7f maiden there three-weeks ago going away towards the end. He runs today in the Listed mile Irish Stallion Farms EBF Stonehenge Stakes at 3.20. Short again at 15-8 he looks a solid bet. He was a €600,000 yearling and is a full-brother Everest Rose and half-brother to several other winners so plenty of improvement is expected yet from the colt. The yard had a winner out in France at the weekend and yesterday suggesting they are back to form; they had a bit of a dry spell in early August.

The other Listed heat there today is the 1m2f British EBF 40th Anniversary Upavon Fillies' Stakes looks tricky. Listed Pretty Polly Stakes winner Running Lion was last in the G.1 French Oaks last time and drops back in to much calmer waters here. She had put together a run of four victories before the French race. Caernarfon has been running at a higher level all season, including the 1,000 Guineas, Oaks and Nassau Stakes, and has to be considered dropping to Listed class; stall one hasn't, on paper, helped her chances with the loop they go round here before the run-in of seven furlongs. I am leaving it alone.

Be lucky
