Best bets for the horse racing Wednesday 12th February 2020

They race at Hereford, which will have to pass an 8am inspection on raceday to go ahead, Kempton Park and Southwell on Wednesday and though perhaps not the most inspiring set of cards there are two running that should be backed with both at fair prices (Hills the only ones that have chalked-up as I write).

Kempton gets underway with the 1m3f Racing TV Apprentice Handicap at 5.00. The old Super 7 system has a qualifier in this and for old times' sake I am having a bet. The qualifier is Never To Forget a 5yo very lightly-raced maiden who went well over 1m here last month and, as well as being the qualifier for the system, I think the gelding could build on that stepping up in trip and dropping down in class. 15-2 was about early.

They face just shy of two-mile in the 32Red Casino Handicap at 7.30. It’s fair to say none of these are likely to be improving but one has caught my eye. Blazon goes well here and has two track and trip wins to his name, both this time last year. Slowly away at Wolverhampton last time he was facing an uphill battle from the off on the Tapeta. On the pick of his form he can get involved here and he has now dropped to his last winning mark. Luke Morris rides, which is no bad thing, and at 8-1 he is a speculative punt to pay for a beer or two Wednesday evening.

Be lucky
