Best bets for the horse racing Tuesday 7th December
I fancy two at Southwell in the twilight meeting on Tuesday. It’s a bit of a historic meeting with the unveiling of the new Tapeta surface at the course replacing the old Fibresand track. Okay, perhaps historic is over selling it but I am quite excited.
Best bets for the horse racing at Southwell
The first goes in the opener at 4.00 the 1m4f Betway Handicap. Toromona must be frustrating connections at Moulton Paddocks thus far with three seconds and a third to his name; at least the races he has been getting beat in look decent. This step-up to 1m4f might help, shouldn’t be an issue on breeding, and an opening handicap mark of 75 doesn’t look harsh. He will need to settle better than he did at Newcastle last time but as a lightly-raced three-year-old you would expect there is more to come yet. He is a relatively confident pick at 11-4 this morning.
At 7.00 they face seven furlongs for the Coral Proud To Support British Racing EBF Novice Stakes. Yantarni is a half-brother to five winners and has a second and third to his name from two starts so far; I backed him on debut when second at Newmarket over seven. Perhaps didn’t quite see out the 1m½f at Wolverhampton last time, blew the start there ae well, and is certainly worth an investment to make it third time lucky here. I am on at 4-5 hoping he might drift to Evens BOG.
