Best bets for the horse racing Thursday 7th September 2023

I have not had a bet since Sunday, slightly longer than I expected, but I have never been one to have a punt for the sake of it. I do have three fancies on Thursday, two here in the UK and one out in France.

Best bets for the horse racing at Haydock Park

Trainer Charlie Appleby has taken the last two renewals of the mile For Weekly Tips Visit www.weekendinsider.co.uk Ebf Novice Stakes  at 3.30. This year he sends 150,000 Guineas yearling purchase Legend Of Time to make his debut. By Sea The Stars out of Listed winner Kissable he is a full-bother to one winner and half-brother to four as all five of the Dams foals thus far have been winners. The yard are back in form and the colt looks the type to in races in the months to come and possibly be one for middle-distances next season at three. I am on at 15-8 overnight and expecting the money to come.

Stablemates Sapphire Seas and Veil Of Shadows go in the 1m2f  British EBF Reprocolor Premier Fillies' Handicap at 4.40. I have tipped both before and are rated just a pound apart officially. Buick would have had first dibs and has gone with Sapphire Seas. The filly was all over the place on her belated debut as a three-year-old at Kempton back in January but has won her two subsequent starts, the last over 1m3f at Kempton again in April being a convincing victory over subsequent Listed winner and Group placed Crack Of Light. This is actually her first go on Turf, her other run being when she won at Wolverhampton, but there is no reason to think it won't suit. I am convinced there is more to come from this late maturing filly and would expect to see her trying to get some black type during the autumn. If she is to do that she really needs to win here and I am on at 11-4. Unbeaten in two Novice Stakes so far Royal Mila looks the possible danger to the selection if she has more to give yet but the form of her two wins doesn't really add up to much, just the one win coming from twenty-nine subsequent starts of those she has beaten.

Best bet for the horse racing at Longchamp

It is Arc Trials day at Longchamp on Sunday but they have a fair card on Thursday as a little  apéritif. Sunset Point is a filly I have talked of and tipped before and the daughter of Dubawi has been set across the Channel from Moulton Paddocks to run in the 1m6f Listed Darley Prix Joubert at 2.33. With William Buick and James Doyle both riding at Haydock as mentioned above Mickael Barzalona gets the leg-up. This is her level and as the season has progressed she has suggested that a step-up from 1m4f might be in her favour; lets face it the way they race in France it's unlikely to be a real test of stamina and the race could suit her just fine. At the time of writing only Bet365 are up (they're 6-4)  so I'll have to shop around in the morning for a price. Dschingis Star looks to be the filly flying the flag for the home team.

I know it's all about Appleby but that's just the way it has panned out, I've been waiting for one to make debut and the other two have chances clear to all.

Be lucky
