Best bets for the horse racing Thursday 24th February 2021 - Dubai World Cup Carnival

They race again out at Meydan in Dubai as the Carnival winds it way towards Super Saturday and Dubai World Cup Night. I fancy four on the day and you can find out which ones below.

Dubai World Cup Carnival Meydan Thursday 24th February

The first race of interest to me out at Meydan is the 1m1f Getthat Handicap on the Turf track at 3.05 and it looks to be at the mercy of Charlie Appleby, it’s just a case of which of his runners to back. Bright Melody was second to Ya Hayati here over 1m2f last month and is 4lb better at the weights in this. Ya Hayati came home pretty well there and the slight concern is the drop back in trip, he picked off Bright Melody in the final furlong and I wonder if with the weight advantage Bright Melody might be able to gain revenge over him here over a furlong shorter. I am on at 4-1.

At 3.40 we have the Listed Meydan Classic still on the Turf over a mile. It’s that man Appleby again as his Master Of The Seas looks as good a good thing as you will see all Carnival but can’t realistically be backed at 2-7!

The stayers are out at 4.15 for the 1m6f Group Three Nad Al Sheba Trophy, again on the Turf track. Ispolini won this back in 2019 but has not looked that impressive thus far this year although he put in his best performance so far at this Carnival in the Meydan Cup over C&D last time. Pat Cosgrove and Volcanic Sky took up the running pretty early on in the Meydan Cup and were ultimately only run down by Dubai Future (Dettori onboard) in the final furlong to finish a good second. I think Dettori would do well to take a leaf out of the book of Cosgrove and Volcanic Sky can make every post a winning one as they say. I am on at 2-1.

The Group Three Dubai Millennium Stakes is over 1m2f on the Turf again due off around 4.50. Star Safari was third in the 1m2f race fought out by Ya Hayati and Bright Melody mentioned above; he then came out and won nicely over 1m4f a fortnight ago. Step back down in trip doesn’t over concern me, has winning form, and I am on at 11-10.

The lucky last is the 7f Meydan Challenge Sponsoered By Friday Listed Handicap at 5.25 once again on the Turf track. Well Of Wisdom is the one for me here, yes it’s another Godolphin runner. Not seen since finishing sixth in the G.3 Shadwell Prix Daphnis at Deauville over 1m in August he is worth a punt off top weight at 4-1 in this. He has been racing against some good ones in his career and won the Listed won the Meydan Classic on this card twelve months ago.  The snips have been reached for and the tonguestrap goes on – sounds like the sort of parties I used to frequent back in the day!

Be lucky
