Best bets for the horse racing Thursday 21st July

Having has a couple of bets out in Ireland on Wednesday that annoyingly finished third and second, I am playing much nearer home on Thursday with my fancies running at Sandown Park.

Best bets for the horse racing at Sandown Park

Charlie Appleby had a few entered at Sandown and Doncaster on Thursday but has narrowed it down to just three runners at the Esher track on the day and all three have to be considered it has to be said. William Buick rides all three and having ridden five winners for me on Saturday it is safe to say he if my favourite jockey at the moment so all being well he can ride a hat-trick here.

Golden Speech was entered at Surrey and up at Yorkshire and goes in the 7f Martin Densham Memorial EBF Maiden Stakes at 1.50 over at Sandown Park. Following debut at Newmarket he as was second here over track and trip at the start of the month to stable mate One Nation - I tipped the winner – and he should be able to make it third time lucky here. I have the 2-1. Arrest is an interesting newcomer being by Frankel out of Nisriyna. He cost €440,000 as a foal and is a half-brother to five winners, a couple that have been 100+ rated, and is one that could be anything as they say and there was money for the colt overnight.

The 7f Listed European Bloodstock News EBF Star Stakes is due off at 2.25. Fairy Cross got off the mark at the second attempt when winning with plenty in hand at HQ in June, the runner-up has boosted the form since winning on the July course at the weekend. By Dubai out of the G.2 winning Devonshire there is every reason to believe there will be more to come from this filly yet and I have snaffled a bit of the 11-4 early.

The third selection goes in the 4.10 the 1m2f Twickenham Fillies' Handicap. After The Rain is one I have tipped before and having had two seconds to start her career she has won her last three starts progressing steadily with each run and the form of those victories looks pretty strong. She’s had a couple of months break and returns to the track on a mark of 84 which I am convinced won’t inconvenience her in the least. This one could be Pattern class ultimately, the family is full of Group winners, dam Anjaz, grand dam Playful Act and great grand dam Magnificent Style to go back just three generations. I am on at 13-8. Amanzoe has been running well but is up to a mark of 82 now, 10lb higher than when winning at Hamilton last time and that is a big hike.

Be lucky
