Best bets for the horse racing Thursday

It’s been a quiet week thus far with just the one bet placed, Operating, that won at 7-2 over at Windsor on Monday evening. I do have three bets for Thursday as things begin to warm-up going into a weekend packed full of action.

Best bet for the horse racing at Yarmouth

Western Writer is one I have written about a lot lately and he is being kept busy by Charlie Appleby racing again in the mile Weatherbys Bloodstock Pro Handicap at Yarmouth due off at 3.20. Second last week at Kempton – I tipped him as I did at Chelmsford City when he won at the start of the month. He gets in here again off a mark of 79, due to rise 3lb after this, and the cheekpieces are on for the first time whilst Harry Davies takes off 5lb in the saddle suggesting connections want that second win as quickly as possible. This is his first run on turf and it wouldn't surprise me to see the gelding ridden pretty positively in this small field. I am on at Evens this morning. William Buick rides the Stoute runner, which is interesting obviously, and that one is Dirty Dozen 2022 member Ikhtiraaq. He was disappointing at Newmarket on seasonal debut and though I will remain keeping an eye on him he may need a little more time yet to fully mature; I am on the Godolphin runner today.

Best bet for the horse racing at Newbury

I am interested in one making debut over in Berkshire in the shape of Chaldean. The colt is a chestnut son of Frankle out of the unraced mare Suelita (Dutch Art) and a half-brother to five winners including G.2 Mill Reef Stakes winner Alkumait. Andrew Balding had him entered in a couple of races this week and he will run in the 6.28 6f James Cowper Kreston Centenary Novice Stakes Thursday evening. He was bred by Whitsbury Manor Stud and Juddmonte had to go to 550,000 Guineas to buy this one as a foal suggesting they liked the look of him. The yard can get one ready and he ticks a lot of boxes as they say. I have a bit of the 9-2 early. Of those that have run Seductive Power looks to have the best form whilst the other Juddmonte owned newcomer Classic Order is bred to be above average as well.

I tipped Upton Park each-way when he was was fourth at Lingfield over 1m2f last time. He starts his handicap career in the 1m4f Punter Southall Handicap at 7.38 off an opening mark of 87. That mark is high enough but he looked a big strong type at Lingfield and this trip may well suit. Callum Hutchinson takes off 5lb and at 7-2 he is a speculative punt.

Be lucky
