Best bets for the horse racing this weekend around the globe

It’s a big weekend of horse racing action again with HQ Newmarket centre Stage and two of the biggest two-year-old races of the season. There is plenty of other action here in the UK, Ireland and across the globe including a race in Germany that I have to get involved with.

Best bets for the horse racing at Cambridgeshire Meeting Day Three

Flying Honours steps up into Group Two class for the Royal Lodge Stakes following two wide-margin wins in lesser company. I tipped him on debut, when fourth, and wasn’t on for his two wins as they were at lesser meetings during Goodwood and York! He is odds-on an unbackable for this annoyingly.

The first of the big races is at 2.25 the 6f Group One Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes. I tipped Meditate when she was second in the G.1 Moyglare Stud Stakes last time, the filly having won for me at the Royal Meeting, but that might not be that bad a piece of form as Tahiyra who won looks a real class filly. She drops back a furlong here but two of her four wins have been at this trip and I would suggest her form is the best in the book. Saaeed bin Suroor said of Mawj recently “Six furlongs is the best distance for her at this stage of her career and the ground should suit, so she has plenty in her favour.” Mediate has beaten her before though and she never really got into the G.2 Lowther Stakes last time so she’s not for me here. Trillium steps back up in trip her last two starts, and wins, being over five. She has to be shortlisted as she has won over this trip and is rightly towards the head of the market. I favour the Ballydoyle filly, just, and I am on at 9-4.

Sadly, unbeaten juvenile and a favourite of mine this season Noble Style will miss the 6f Group One Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at 3.00; it still looks a fair race mind you. Blackbeard and Persian Force face off again having finished first and second in the G.1 6f Darley Prix Morny last month; I tipped the winner Blackbeard. Marshman had his colours lowered by Noble Style in the G.2 Gimcrack Stakes but that is fair looking form, three of those behind have won at lower levels since, so he has to be shortlisted. With Noble Style side-lined Charlie Appleby has Mischief Magic in the line-up and the Exceed And Excel colt may be able to improve again, passed his more experienced rivals here. He arrives off the back of victory in the G3 Sirenia Stakes at Kempton Park earlier this month, tipped on here, swooping passed the entire field to win. I tipped him at Goodwood and HQ before that as well when he won so it is perhaps not surprising, I like him. Charlie Appleby said “We were all very impressed with the way Mischief Magic quickened at Kempton. We know that we are taking on a different calibre of horse this time but he has progressed with each run and won’t look out of place in this field.” I could make a case for all four but I have gone with the potential of Mischief Magic at 3-1 as I think that colt has more to offer yet.

Best bet for the horse racing Sunday in Ireland

Art Power has crossed the Irish Sea to run in the 6f Group Three William Hill Ireland Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh due off at 3.05 and the grey should be backed in calmer waters than normal. The yielding ground should be ideal and the colt should be able to beat this field relatively easily. I have 11-10 Saturday morning.

Best bet for the horse racing Sunday in Germany

Rebel’s Romance puts his unbeaten turf record on the line when he returns to Germany for the Group One 1m4f Preis von Europa at Cologne due off at 3.35. The four-year-old switched to Turf this season and has won the listed Fred Archer Stakes, G3 Glorious Stakes and last time the G1 Grosser Preis von Berlin at Hoppegarten on his three starts. Trainer Charlie Appleby told the Godolphin website this week “Rebel’s Romance came out of the Grosser Preis von Berlin well. He has to concede weight to a couple of three-year-olds, including the German Derby winner, but we are not sure that our horse has reached his ceiling. He has progressed with each run and won at this level last time out, which makes us very hopeful that he can put up another good performance.” Get on Sunday at the best price you can find as I agree that this gelding has more to offer yet.
