Best bets for the horse racing this weekend

After the disappointments of last weekend with big names galore being scratched at the last minute, I imagine most of you, as I have, have held off from having any ante-post punts for this weekend. There are some big names out this weekend, all being well, though it is noted the non-runners are starting to build this morning. Sadly, once again, a number of runners will be odds-on today and unbackable.

Best bet for the Horse racing at Newcastle

Thyme Hill lines-up for the Grade Two Coral John Francome Novices' Chase but is odds-on. I wanted to back Walking On Air in the Coral Racing Club Handicap Hurdle but he is one of those non-runners. It is fair to say the Grade One Betfair Fighting Fifth Hurdle at 2.10 up at Newcastle is the race of the day by some way. Constitution Hill is in “electric” form according to Henderson having schooled on Wednesday ahead of his belated and eagerly-anticipated seasonal debut.
Epatante is good, and gets the 7lb, but truth be told she needs to jolly to misfire to be able to beat him. There is a bet to be had, in the lucky last the 2m7f Betfair Exchange Rehearsal Handicap Chase. L'homme Presse has to give the field a minimum of 7lb but was the standout novice last season and looks a potential Gold Cup contender this season. I think he is good enough to make a big statement here with a big weight-carrying performance. The yard of Venetia Williams has finally hit its stride and the seven-year-old can take this. I am on at 15-8

Best bets for the horse racing at Wolverhampton

It has been a very quiet week for the Flat stables with no All-Weather racing at all scheduled in the UK; was a couple at Dundalk in Ireland. I noticed earlier this week Charlie Appleby had three entered for the evening card at Wolverhampton on Saturday and two run.

Moving Colours goes in the opened the talkSPORT Download The App Nursery at 4.20 and I am on at 2-1. The Frankel filly is from a good family and has shown enough in her three starts to suggest she can win race and an opening mark of 70 may look lenient after this.

Glittering Lights is the other runner up from Moulton Paddocks running in the It's Time To Turn To talkSPORT EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes at 6.20. She has a couple of thirds to her name so far and  drops after not quite getting the mile at Kempton on her latest outing. There should be more to come from this daughter of Kingman after only two starts and I am on this morning at 13-8.
