Best Bets For The Horse Racing Saturday 12th August 2017

It is Shergar Cup day at Ascot this weekend. It is all good fun and a shop window for the game, and lets be honest great to see some of the best jockeys from around the world here on our shores but as a betting medium it is of no interest to me.

We do have Pattern class stuff at HQ Newmarket and Haydock and that is where I will be concentrating my efforts.

At 2.30 Haydock hosts the Group Three Betfred Rose Of Lancaster Stakes.Of those that line-up Laraaib is open to the most improvement and has looked like a Group performer winning three from three thus far – maiden and two handicaps - the latest at Ascot was soft in places so all being well the underfoot conditions should not be a problem. Gets in with only 8-9 to shoulder and at 4-1 is as good a bet as any in a very competitive heat.

We stay at Haydock for the Listed Betfred TV/EBF Stallions Dick Hern Stakes at 3.35. Sea Of Grace looks to have a very good chance on official ratings.  Second in G.1 French 1000 Guineas at Deauville in May and fourth in G.1 Falmouth last time she should be too good in these calmer waters. The chestnut won on yielding as a two-year-old so if it doesn’t dry out connections shouldn’t be overly concerned. Grab the 10-11.

The Group Three Sweet Solera Stakes at 3.40 over the seven of Newmarket see’s some potentially good two-year-old fillies lining-up. Poetic Charm won her maiden nicely here at HQ over track and trip and even though that was on good-firm a chance is taken the she is possible top class and should be able to handle the softer conditions. She has three subsequent winners behind that day (3rd, 4th and 6th) so the form looks rock solid. By Dubawi out of Speirbhean she is certainly bred to be Group class and with the Appleby yard in cracking form of late she is the pick at 9-2. Dance Diva, and Mayyasah are both feared.

Be lucky
