Best bets for the horse racing over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend

It is a bit quantity over quality on Saturday with the greatest of respect to those running, two Group Three’s and a Listed heat at Haydock being the only pattern races on the day. ITV clearly weren’t sure what to do so are showing races from Beverley, Chester and Haydock. In fact, it’s the same for the entire Bank Holiday weekend, they have the German 1000 Guineas at Dusseldorf on Sunday but I don’t fancy one out there. As for Monday, quite frankly as it stands, I wouldn’t bet on anything running with somebody else's money!

I posted the bet on Safe Voyage at Haydock on Thursday and I hope you are on at the price as the money is coming as I write on Friday: http://www.girdysgeegees.com/blog/best-bet-for-the-horse-racing-at-haydock-saturday-29th-may

As for the rest of the weekend my one other fancy follows.

Best bets for the horse racing at Haydock

The 5f Listed Achilles Stakes is due off at 2.20. A few lining-up here that are hard to catch right, not least El Astronaute, but the eight-year-old always notches a couple of wins each season and got his 2021 campaign off to a winning start at Chester earlier in the month; Kings Lynn second but 3ln worse off at the weights here. Out the stalls like a scalded cat they couldn’t quite reel him in close home that day, the straight five furlongs here will make that tactic more difficult and this is quite simply a better race. He will blast out of stall 12 with good old Ornate likely to do the same out of stall 1 right over the other side so they should go at a fair old pace in this. Moss Gill has been slowly and steadily making his way up the sprinting ranks, far from disgraced when third in the G.1 Nunthorpe last season. He looked a little out of his comfort zone last time in the 6f G.1 Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan, this should prove much more to his liking. Cheekpieces are one for the first time and he is ideally positioned in stall 6 to get a lead into the race which will suit. I have taken the 5-1 on Friday as I think he can pick off the trailblazers in the final furlong.

Alpinista was very much on my mind for the Group Three Pinnacle Stakes at 2.55 over 1m4f but she won’t be running. It looks a fairly average Group Three now and I couldn’t back any of them with any confidence so I am leaving it alone.

And that is it, a very quiet Bank Holiday weekend for me with just two bets but I aint one to bet for the sake of it. All being well I'll have two nice winners and I can sit in the garden with a lager or two enjoying the weather; now, where did I store the BBQ?

Be lucky
