Best bets for the horse racing Friday 28th June 2024
With Arabian Storm having been a non-runner at Newcastle on Thursday, Blessed Honour was also on my radar at Nottingham but odds-on, I am as yet to have a bet this week. I am involved at Newmarket on Friday evening and my three bets can be found below.
As for the rest of the card Buicks mount in the 5.50 the 1m2f Long Shot Refreshment Banker Fillies' Handicap Post Rider goes for a hat-trick. The chestnut filly appears to have appreciated the step-up in trip to a mile and change to Turf winning at Brighton and Nottingham recently with this further step-up in trip likely to suit. A mark of 70 looks to still underrate her and I am on at 6-4.
In the lucky last the 1m2f Long Shot Summer Seltzer Handicap Buick slips back into the Godolphin silks to ride Signalman, trained by John and Thady Gosden. The grey will surely get off the mark sooner rather than later and this evening should be the time. The grey was a fair fourth at Sandown last time and similar positive tactics here should see the son of New Approach breaking his duck. I am on this on as well at 11-8.
Hopefully it will be a treble up for Buick.

On Friday over at HQ, Newmarket it looks significant to me that William Buick chooses to ride there for Charlie Appleby rather than travel to Newcastle to ride one of the stables runners in the G.3 Jenningsbet In Delves Hoppings Fillies' Stakes. In the opener at Newmarket the 6f Long Shot British EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes we have two from Moulton Paddocks making debut. I would normally back any two-year-old from the yard making debut here but with two in the race it does muddy the waters a bit. Buick is on Scattering Light a son of star sprinter Blue Point, who has made a good start to his career as a stallion, and out of Cantiniere a multiple winning mare in her racing days for the trainer between a mile and a mile-and-a-half. She is by War Front and out of a group winning Galileo mare so there is plenty to like on paper.
