Best bets for the horse racing Friday 21st May 2021

There is a heavy dollop of DeJa'Vu again for Friday with Charlie Appleby sending a few out that I have talked of and backed before once again – I am turning into his PR department!

It’s actually a decent day's horse racing and I am getting involved with a couple at Goodwood and one up at Haydock.

Best bets for the horse racing at Haydock

I mentioned Churchill earlier as my first-season sire to keep an eye on and a daughter of his that I will be backing on Friday is Madame Ambassador who goes in the 2.40 at Haydock the 7f Culcheth Fillies Novice Stakes. She is a half-sister to six winners being out of Lady Jane Digby and is very much bred to be top-class. She is owned and bred by Miss Kirsten Rausing owner of Lanwades Stud in Newmarket who knows a thing or two about the game and trained by Mark Johnston, who also knows a thing or two about the game, and you’d expect this one to be above average and ready to go on debut. The three that have run before certainly don't set the bar too high and this is a great opportunity to begin her racing career with a win. I am on at 5-2 this morning.

Best bets for the horse racing at Goodwood

Fall Of Rome goes in the 1.10 the 6f British European Breeders Fund EBF Novice Stakes; actually, had entries at Newmarket, Windsor and Lingfield over the next few days so the fact he is here can be seen as a tip in itself. Tipped on debut by me a few days back over five at Ascot he looked green at times and lost his way a bit halfway through the race before running on into second promisingly. I will be amazed if there isn’t more to come from this one and he should have too much for this field. The bookies know as well though and he is ridiculously short at 2-5. Golden War, a son of Churchill my first-season sire to keep an eye on this year, is considered the danger if ready to go on debut; the colt comes for this rather than the race at Newmarket the selection was also entered in.

2.15 1m2f Listed Height Of Fashion Stakes I tipped Nash Nasha at Lingfield last time in the Listed Oaks Trial, actually the same day I tipped Fall Of Rome, and she simply didn’t seem to get home over the extended 1m3f there; it was a bit of a messy race and Buick certainly wasn’t hard on her when her chance had gone. This doesn't look as strong a race to me, on what we know about the runners thus far, despite being the same level and hopefully the selection can get back to winning ways at 11-2 best odds guaranteed. Ready To Venture has an Irish Oaks entry and is clearly well-regarded and as such the biggest danger.

3.25 1m3f Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Cocked Hat Stakes I have tipped Yibir on his last two starts, G.3 Classic Trial at Sandown and Listed Dee Stakes at Chester. Perhaps unlucky not to win at Sandown Drying ground would help I think so hopefully the light showers that may arrive hopefully won’t. He is still entered for the Derby at Epsom and the Irish version at this stage as well as the G.2 King Edward VII Stakes at Ascot, which looks perhaps the more achievable target moving forward, but if he is to go for any of them needs to be winning here. I have a bit of the early doors 4-1 this morning.

Be lucky
