Best bets for the horse racing Friday 15th July

A frustratingly quiet week for me with several fancied horses being priced-up at daft short prices and unbackable and the one bet I did put up on Monday being withdrawn! I am finally involved this week with three bets to be had on Friday.

I have never really been one for ‘systems’ that I follow, in fact only really one if you can call it a system, and that is I do like a Godolphin two-year-old making debut at HQ or Newbury. A bit like buses three have come along at once on Friday!

Best bets for the horse racing at Newbury

They get underway at 1.00 at Newbury with the 7f R & M Electrical EBF Novice Stakes. The Moulton Paddocks runner here is Lenormand. The colt is by Dubawi out of Baisse, a Listed winner in her day who has two offspring to have run, both winners, including the tough and reliable Best Of Days who was the winner of the G.2 Royal Lodge Stakes at two. With High Chaparral and Dubai Millennium as grand-sires you would expect this one to progress as he matures but he can get off to a winning start here. I am on at 7-2 overnight.

At 1.33 we have Division two of the 7f R & M Electrical EBF Novice Stakes. Charlie Appleby saddles Silver Knott in this and this colt has some bloodstock royalty on his page, it isn’t surprising he cost 725,000 Guineas as a yearling. By Lope De Vega, the French 2,000 Guineas and Derby winner, he is out of God Given, a multiple Group winner in her day, and another that should progress with Shamardal and Nathaniel as grand-sires – Shamardal was also of course Champion two-year-old. I think it can be a quick double for William Buick and Charlie Appleby and have snaffled the 2-1 overnight about this one.

Best bets for the horse racing at Nottingham

I have tipped Operating on two of his three starts, on debut and then when winning last time, on his third start, at Windsor. He runs in the 4.20 at Nottingham Friday afternoon, I almost missed him as was concentrating on Newbury and Newmarket, but I am glad I spotted him (albeit a little late) as an opening handicap mark of 83 looks very workable to me for a colt that surely has further progression to come, I am on at 11-10 this morning.

Best bet for the horse racing at Newmarket

Art Of Magic makes debut for the yard of Charlie Appleby in the opener at Newmarket on Friday evening the 7f Follow racingwelfare On Social Fillies' Novice Stakes. By Invincible Spirit, a decent sprinter in his day who won the G.1 Sprint Cup At Haydock, she is out of Hand Puppet who won a race in France in her career and there is enough on the page to suggest she should win a race or two – her half-sister Independent Act was a winner at two. She runs here rather that engagements at Doncaster on Saturday which is seen as a positive, James Doyle rides with Buick over at Newbury and I am on at 6-4 overnight for this one to make it a hat-trick of debutant winners for Charlie Appleby on the day.
