Best bets for the horse racing at Sandown Park Thursday 27th July

I said at the start of the week it looked like being a quiet few days with nothing really floating my boat in the racing and so it has proved.

Charlie Appleby had two double entered today for the meetings at Doncaster and Sandown so I think it can be seen as significant that Musical Act and Stormy Waves both race at Doncaster in the 7f Simon Piggott Memorial Race EBF Novice Stakes with James Doyle and Jamie Spencer booked respectively. Musical Art is the shortish priced jolly looking bred to be a very good two-year-old but he is already a gelding which has me slightly worried about his temperament, as does the fact Buick is elsewhere. There has been a trickle of cash for him but nothing big. William Buick has gone to Sandown to ride the two Charlie Appleby sends there. In the 7f Martin Densham Memorial British EBF Maiden Stakes at 2.40 he has Arabian Crown who was third here over track and trip on debut at the start of the month. He was a €600,000 yearling and is a full-brother Everest Rose and half-brother to several other winners so plenty of improvement is expected on what was a fair debut effort anyway. I have the Evens available overnight.

The 1m6f George Lindon-Travers Memorial Handicap at 3.50 certainly looks to be between Nothing To Sea and Hidden Story. Hidden Story takes quite a step-up in trip again, won over 1m2f at Newcastle before a fair fourth over 1m4f at HQ last time. He was on paper a shade disappointing there but Buick wasn’t hard on him when his chance had gone and he perhaps took the wrong route, the first three home all stuck to the inside, the selection was first home of those that went to the middle/far side. I have a bit of the 7-4 overnight.

Be lucky
