Best bets for the horse racing at Newmarket, the Cambridgeshire Meeting

Not a great first day for me at HQ, two bets and two losers. I have had three bets for Friday and I am quietly confident about all three overnight.

Best bets for the horse racing at Cambridgeshire Meeting Day Two

Eternal Pearl has been in fine for of late, I have tipped her more than once, and is of interest in the 2.25 Group Three 1m4f Princess Royal Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Stakes. The Frankel filly swooped from the rear for a decisive two-length verdict over G1-placed Queen Trezy in the Prix Minerve at Deauville last month (tipped on here) that win coming after a Novice victory at Kempton Park in June and a comfortable victory the following month in the Listed Aphrodite Stakes on Newmarket’s July Course. Her trainer Charlie Appleby said: “We have been very pleased with Eternal Pearl this season and feel that she has progressed again since winning at Deauville. She has a penalty for that success but we are confident that she can put up another good performance.” I am on at 9-4 for her to make it a four-timer here. The obvious threat is Sea Silk Road who did best the selection, just, over 1m3f at Goodwood in May.

We are racing at Newmarket, it is a big meeting and Charlie Appleby has a two-year-old debutant in the shape of Regal Honour lining-up in the 7f Al Basti Equiworld Dubai British EBF 'Confined' Maiden Stakes at 4.10 - no prizes for guessing I am on. The closet thing I have to a ‘system’ these days is backing Godolphin debutants at HQ and this one looks likely to be above average anyway. He cost 625,000 Guineas as a yearling and is by Dubawi out of Serena's Storm a winning mare from a very good family. Being out of Serenas Storm this one is a half-brother to five winners, including mile G.1 Coronation Stakes winner Rizeena and G.1 placed G.2 Balanchine Stakes winner Summer Romance. I simply have to be on and took the 2-1. The colt was also entered at Yarmouth next week so the fact he runs here suggests he is liked down at Moulton Paddocks. Kolsai was second on debut and looks the danger on what little form we know.

The Listed 1m4f Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Godolphin Stakes is an interesting race with a few on recovery missions somewhat. Without A Fight won the 3-runner G.3 John Smith's Silver Cup las time and a Listed heat before that both at York and on both occasions John Leeper second. Thunderous, third of the three in the Silver Cup, got turned over here on Thursday at odds-on so the form aint great. Passion And Glory put in a below-par effort in the G.3 Rose of Lancaster at Haydock last time whilst Global Storm has been running well in defeat but that’s just it, he aint won since February. I think it is well worth noting the team at Moulton Paddocks have decided to turn out Siskany so quickly and it suggests they are at a loss to explain the effort at Newbury last Saturday; disappointing in the in the G.3 Legacy Cup. William Buick is back onboard here and cheekpieces have been applied so I am taking a chance he can bounce back as, at his best, he surely wins this and he is getting weight off Passion And Glory and Without A Fight. I have the generally available 5-2.

I know, it’s a Appleby, Buick, Godolphin treble but it wasn’t deliberate, they are just the three I fancy and the duo are in fine form so hopefully it will be a blue day for all the right reasons.

Be lucky
