Best bets for the horse racing at Kempton Saturday 7th April 2018

I am having a go in two of the ITV televised races from Kempton Park on Saturday and have jumped on nice and early as I like the look of the BPG odds.

They go over six furlongs for the Betfred 'supports Jack Berry House' Handicap at 2.20. Some decent types line-up but most require a career best to win on current ratings. Tropics hasn’t won of this sort of mark since 2015, whilst Boundsy, Mazzini and Raven's Lady are all on higher marks than they have ever won off. One that doesn’t have to improve in theory is Swift Approval the chestnut gelding back down to a rating of 92. Ideally drawn in one I would expect the six-year-old to ping out and make this a real test; stays seven furlongs. The eye shields are on to help with concentration and I have taken a chance at the 10-1.

Smart Call is the star attraction in the Listed Betfred "Home Of Goals Galore" Snowdrop Fillies' Stakes at 3.15. Now trained by Sir Michael Stoute she was, of course, a multiple Group One winner in her native South Africa and though she perhaps didn’t reach the heights hoped for in 2017. She has not been seen in competitive action since finishing seventh behind Highland Reel in the G.1 Hong Kong Vase in December but the six-year-old acquitted herself well enough in races such as G.2 Middleton Stakes at York and G.2 Duke of Cambridge at Royal Ascot to suggest talent remains, was asked quite a bit in G.1’s later in the season, and she should prove too classy for this line-up. Bigger targets will be aimed at later in the summer and I have the 5-2 about her for this. Shenanigans is feared most.

Be lucky
