Best bets for the horse racing at Deauville Sunday 20th August

I am all about France on Sunday for my bets with the big meeting at Deauville. They have had a fair bit of rain out in France and the going at Deauville is described as heavy.

Eternal Hope has been sent over by Charlie Appleby for the G.2  1m2f Sumbre Prix Alec Head that gets the card underway at 12.58 but the ground is an unknown for her and she is drifting in the betting. Home team hope Jannah Rose looks the bet at 11-10. She has won three of her four starts with her only defeat coming in the G.1 Prix de Diane Longines when not disgraced behind Blue Rose Cen.

At 2.50 it is the first of the Group One races the 1m2f Sumbe Prix Jean Romanet. Irish raider Above The Curve has to be on any shortlist off the back of her a good second in the in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood on the soft earlier this month. Via Sistina won the G.1 Pretty Polly at the Curragh, Above The Curve third, and has won over this trip out here in France as well. Her win in the 1m2f G.2  Dahlia Stakes at HQ was on soft so the underhoof conditions aren't a concern and though a shad odds-on at 10-11 she is the tip.

Race of the day arguably is the 6f G.1 Sumbe Prix Morny at 3.25. It looks to be between  Ramatuelle and River Tiber. Ramatuelle impressed taking the G.2 Prix Robert Papin Stakes last time, O'Brien trained His Majesty second, and as a filly gets a little weight for the colts. The form of her win at Chantilly in June is working out well and she looks a good filly. River Tiber is three from three and is back on track after a short break following his win in the G.2  Coventry Stakes at the Royal meeting. The colt on on soft on debut but he really didn't have to beat much there and the ground has to be a slight concern. I have sided with the French filly at 11-8 as she has more experience of the conditions but it is a tentative vote as if the Ballydoyle colt handle heavy he will go close surely.

The last of the Pattern races on the card is the 1m7f Group Two Sumbe Prix Kergorlay at 4.00. There has been some cash for Run For Oscar and with his connections you have to take note if a few quid starts to go down. The Good Man looks the bet here though. He has become a solid Group performer and arrives off the back of a win in the G.2 1m6f Prix Maurice de Nieuil on soft at Longchamp. He won't mind the conditions at all and I have a bot of the 9-4 this morning.

No massive prices amongst the four and I wouldn't put you off a cheeky Sunday Yankee.

Be lucky
