Best bets for the horse racing at Deauville Sunday 12th July
My eyes are firmly fixed across the Channel for the racing at Deauville on Sunday and it should be a fruitful afternoon for team Godolphin.
First race of interest is the Listed Prix Kistena over six at 1.35 The unbeaten G.1 Middle Park winner Earthlight makes his belated seasonal reappearance on the card. Andre Fabre has had to be patient with the colt, but he looked class last year and will surely have too much for this field despite not being seen since September. Best overnight odds are 2-7 so it’s no bet.
At 2.50 it is the 7f Listed Qatar Prix Amandine with the Charlie Appleby trained Stormy Mountain an interesting runner. I have tipped on her two starts to date and I think the grey filly might be capable of winning a race such as this. I have taken a chance at 12-1 overnight. Stablemate Althiqa is the choice of Buick and the short-priced jolly but hopefully he has picked the wrong one; this could be a Godolphin one-two. .
The big race Sunday is at 3.25 the 7f Group One Qatar Prix Jean Prat. Last season's champion juvenile Pinatubo makes the trip across the Channel to run over Deauville's straight seven furlongs in a bid to get back to winning ways after placed efforts at a mile in the 2,000 Guineas and the St James's Palace Stakes. I of course backed him for both them races and feel confident he will win. I don’t like doing it but have backed him at a skinny 4-5.
Yet another I have tipped before makes the trip across for a run in the Group Three 6f Qatar Prix de Ris-Orangis. This one is the Appleby trained Royal Crusade who arrives having finished sixth in the Commonwealth Cup when last seen having ballsed the start a bit there. I think he can get back to winning ways here and have the 5-2 overnight.
Be lucky
