Best bets for the horse racing around the globe Saturday 6th April 2024

I mentioned in my post on Friday that we are in a bit of a lull as far as top-class action is concerned here in the UK at least; plenty of top-class action going on around the world this weekend. Horse racing fixtures are once again being lost to the weather with Kelso on Saturday abandoned and meetings at the Curragh and Uttoxeter will need to come through inspections at 7.30am.

I am sticking to these shores, predominantly, as there are a few good races on the All-Weather (thankfully) that catch the eye and I want to get involved with them as well as one across the pond at Keeneland. The G.3 1m2f Tote.ie Alleged Stakes at the Curragh looked tricky enough before the rain turned the going heavy and I am leaving that race alone.

Best bets for the horse racing at Kempton Park

There are a pair of 100-rated horses in the Mile Listed Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes at Kempton due off at 2.05. Course and distance winner Choisya is the one I think may have more to give yet as a four-year-old. She was progressing throughout last season as a three-year-old and I think Simone and Ed Crisford can pick up a nice prize or two with her over the coming months. The yard is in decent enough form and though she has to defy stall seven she is usually quick from the gates and should be able to get a nice spot early on. I think she can take this and have some of the 5-2 this morning.

The Mile Virgin Bet Daily Extra Places British EBF Fillies' Conditions Stakes was a race of interest but Devoted Queen from Moulton Paddocks is fairly long odds-on giving away weight and it’s a no bet race now. A half-sister to three winners including G.3 winner One Ruler she was a comfortable winner of 7f fillies' maiden at Newmarket in October 2023.

The Mile Virgin Bet Best Odds Daily British EBF Conditions Stakes (Colts & Geldings) straight after sees another Charlie Appleby trained three-year-old head the market in the shape of Notable Speech. As a winner of both his starts to date the colt also has to give away weight all round. By Dubawi he is the first foal out of Swift Rose who was Group placed in her racing career and comes from a family that has produced plenty of winners down the generations. An impressive winner over over track and trip on debut in January he followed that up once again over C&D the following month in a conditions race. He looks one to keep on side and should be backed this afternoon at 8-11.

Best bet for the horse racing at Chelmsford City

The race of the day at Chelmsford City is the Mile Woodford Reserve Cardinal Conditions Stakes (The Road To The Kentucky Derby) at 3.30. There are a couple in here rated 100+ the obvious eye-catcher being Capulet (OR 109) over from Ballydoyle with Ryan Moore having an evening in Essex to ride. A winner on debut at Dundalk last summer he was then second in the G.2 KPMG Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown and third in the G.2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at HQ before being put away for the winter. A son of US Triple Crown winner Justify out of G.2 winning Galileo mare Wedding Vow, he has all the big entries you would expect here in the UK and Ireland and though it appears unlikely he’d go out to the Kentucky Derby (not been nominated for the Triple Crown) he can still take this on his way to other targets. I am on at 10-11. Orne, who has been busy this season already in Doha and here on the All-Weather can pick up the pieces if the jolly falters.

Best bet for the horse racing at Keeneland

Winner of the G.1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint in 2022 Mischief Magic returns to the track and trip of his greatest triumph for the Grade Two 5½f Shakertown Stakes at 10.20. The four-year-old gelding has never quite reached those heights again but bounced back to winning form when stepped up to 6f in the Listed Dubai Sprint in February this year and was then a decent third in the G.3 Dukhan Sprint at Doha (6f) later that month. Shop around later as the only Bookie chalked-up  as I write is BET365 at 3-1.
