Best bets for the Cazoo St Leger Festival at Doncaster Day One and Kempton Park

The Cazoo St Leger Festival kicks off with a bit of fun and the ‘Legends’ race with retired jockeys dusting off their breeches and returning to action in the charity race on Wednesday. There are two bets to be had Wednesday, one at Doncaster and the other at Kempton in the evening.

Best bet for the horse racing at Doncaster

There is actually not that much to get excited about on the opening day I think but I do fancy one in the Cambion Electronics Nursery at 2.25 over 7f. Yes, it’s Buick and Appleby again from me but Modern Dancer looks to have a great chance on his Nursery debut with an opening mark of 85 looking very workable. He won on debut here at Doncaster back in June and was then second under a penalty in a Novice at Yarmouth last month; Seeking Gold that beat him that day went on to be fourth in the Listed Ascendant Stakes recently behind the very promising Naval Power. By Kingman out of Epitome, that top-class broodmare, he is a half-brother to no less than nine winners, four of them 100+ rated including Group winners Ultra and Synopsis so you would expect plenty of improvement yet. Get on at 11-8 overnight to get the four-days off to a winning start.

Best bet for the horse racing at Kempton Park

Charlie Appleby has another runner on Wednesday over at Kempton Park in the 6.00 the mile Try Our New Price Boost At Unibet Fillies' Novice Stakes. The filly in question is Moving Colours making debut and she is of interest on breeding. By Frankel, little I need to say there, she is out of Patroness who did little on track in her day but has five other foals to race to date, four of them winners, including Blair House and Key Victory both Pattern class winners in their careers whilst in the care of Mr Charlie Appleby. She’s worth a bet at 9-4 overnight. Of those that have run already Luckin Brew looks the obvious danger but she didn't live up to her debut effort back at HQ recently.

Be lucky
