Best bets for Saturday and Sunday at the QIPCO Guineas Festival 2020
Its Guineas weekend at Newmarket, finally, with nine races Saturday and ten on the Sunday to look forward to. I have dealt with the big races on the Classics page http://www.girdysgeegees.com/classics-2020 so what I will do here is look at my fancies, there aren’t many truth be told, for the undercard on both days.
First up let's look at Saturday. At 2.25 we have the 1m2f Group Two Betfair Dahlia Fillies' Stakes. Chestnut mare Magic Lily is one I have tipped up a few times in the past and she was very much on my mind for this. She has never won over this far but three wins to her name, two over 1m1f and put in a decent effoer to be beaten 1¾ lengths by Barney Roy when second of 13 on her latest outing in the G.1 Jebel Hatta at Meydan over 1m1f in March. I have the 5-2 about her. The Gosden Godolphin owned filly Terebellum is the danger but her best form is on soft in France and she won’t get that ground on Saturday.
On Sunday the Listed Pretty Polly Fillies' Stakes at 3.00 is an open looking affair but I like what little I have seen of Alpen Rose and tipped her for the G.2 May Hill Stakes last September where she was third; you can forget her last run in November on the heavy ground that she hated. By Sea The Stars out of Valais Girl she should have come on over the winter and the trip should hold no fears, she has entries for the Oaks and Irish Oaks. 11-2 looks a fair price to me. Run Wild and Tiempo Vuela feared most.
At 5.20 they face a mile for the Betfair Exchange More Ways To Win EBF Stallions Novice Stakes. I tipped Spectrum Of Light on his last debut back in December at Newcastle, had already been gelded. He was a closing second that day beaten ¾ of a length, the winner getting first run on him. A 325,000 Guineas foal by Golden Horn out of Elegant Shadow he is well related and with the natural maturity and progression you would expect should take this before a tilt at bigger prizes as the season progresses. 7-2 is about Friday evening.
