Best bets for day two of the Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket Friday 25th September

It’s a good card at HQ on Friday and I have a couple of possible bets to hopefully pay for the Friday night fish & chips. They are both Godolphin owned horses, I know I've tipped a few lately, but I fancy them and that's that! Watch the weather though as one might not even run and if it tips down as predicted it could play havoc with the form.

We get underway again at 1.15 with the Derrinstown Irish EBF Maiden Stakes. Quintillus makes his debut in the opener and was very much on my radar but the Godolphin owned Dubawi half-brother to several winners is plenty short enough at 13-8  overnight. That said the yard of Charlie Appleby is on form and they save their best for races just like this. I just hope it doesn't piss down as that would throw the race wide-open as who knows which of these will like it heavy!

At 3.35 its the Group Two one-mile Shadwell Joel Stakes. It will not surprise any regular readers that Benbatl has been on my mind for this, since I did my money backing him for the Celebration Mile in fact when the heavens opened and the six-year-old did not run!  He won this last year of course and I would strongly fancy him to do it again, he actually gets a pound from Kameko in the race conditions despite being rated 5lb higher, but ain’t bet yet as the rain could come in the morning. If it turns soft I doubt he'll line-up and can't back him as he simply hates it wet underhoof. We'll see but the forecast is for heavy rain.

Be lucky
