Best bets for day two of Irish Champions Weekend at the Curragh

What a busy few days it has been with the St Leger Festival and Irish Champions weekend. No one gets to rest just yet though as Sunday sees Champions Weekend in Ireland move to the Curragh. There is more top-level racing to enjoy along with some headache-inducing handicaps. My fancies for Sunday follow.

The 7f Group One National Stakes at 3.35 was looking likely to be a cracker but not everyone has come to the party. Pinatubo has been mighty impressive so far in his career and the Godolphin owned colt trained by Charlie Appleby will be odds-on for this. You wouldn’t get Evens off of me.

At 4.10 it is the 1m6f Group One Irish St Leger and my old mate Kew Gardens, winner of last years St Leger at Doncaster, runs. He has two seconds from two runs this season to his name and I think a return to this longer trip will surely suit. I have the Carpet 3-1 about him. Cross Counter is the obvious danger.

Out in France I am not getting overly involved in the 'Trials' as, as someone said the other day, they are more preps than trials these days with some ms results in the past and they are a notorious punting graveyard but I have taken a bit of the 5-2 about Irish Oaks winner (tipped one here) Star Catcher in thew Group One  Qatar Prix Vermeille as I think she will dominate this field and that man Dettori has chosen her over stablemate Anapurna.
Be lucky
