I said on Monday that though I didn't have much planned this week there was still the chance of a bet of two in the run up to Royal Ascot and there's one running on Wednesday that I have to be on.

Charlie Appleby has sent a couple up to Haydock for the meeting on Wednesday afternoon for the 7f Pat Hodgson And Mary Shields ACSIL Novice Stakes at 3.50 and one of them I have tipped before. I tipped State Of Desire at Yarmouth last month when he finished third on his racecourse debut over six. The money came for him but he was somewhat green, looking about a bit, and not given a hard time of it by Buick when his chance had gone. As I said at the time he is a son of Frankel out of winning mare Desirous and as such a runner for Godolphin with pretty much entirely Juddmonte blood coursing through his veins. A 400,000 Guineas purchase a number of his close relatives were decent two-year-olds not least his Sire Frankel and Grandsire Galileo and Grandsire on the dam side Kingman! That first time effort was fair, the step-up a furlong should suit and the experience has to be seen as a plus in a field full of newcomers. Buick sticks with him over stable mate By The Book, another son of Frankel in this case out of out of unraced mare Cash In The Hand, and that is also seen as a positive. I am on overnight at 9-4.
