Best bet for the horse racing Thursday 3rd May 2018 at Chelmsford City

A few of the big yards are having quieter days in the run-up to the Guineas Festival this weekend. Over at Godolphin Saeed bin Suroor sends Victory Wave back to Southwell, where she won on debut last time, for the Novice Stakes over a mile at 3.20 but she is odds-on and not really a betting proposition. Charlie Appleby sends Shellbrook to Chelmsford City for the 5.50 there but she is best watched on her racecourse debut.

One that does catch my eye is Able Jack in the Totetrifecta Pick The 1,2,3 Handicap over a mile at Chelmsford City due off at 7.20. Two for two over this track and trip the five-year-old seems in good heart this year, also won at Wolverhampton making it three wins from four runs in 2018. Even though he is on a career high of 88 for this he looks likely to continue his winning streak. The inmates of Stuart Williams’ yard down Hamilton Road at Diomed Stables are generally in pretty good heart at the moment which is seen as another plus. On a day when the racing does not exactly set the pulse racing, he is a nice little punt at 5-1 taken last night.

Be lucky
