Best bet for the horse racing Thursday 27th January

Following a winning day Wednesday it’s a day of watching more than punting for me on Thursday; three are out I may have backed but for one reason or another I can’t. Charlie Appleby sends Symbol Of Light to Southwell for the mile Play Coral Racing-super-series For Free Handicap at 1.20 but she will be long odds-n and unbackable. The yard also sends two to Newcastle for the twilight meeting. I mentioned Khathak back in December when he made his debut and suggested it was a race to watch; the full-brother to the classy Ribchester won by a short-head at Kempton that day. He runs in the 4.27 the mile Play Coral Racing-Super-Series For Free Novice Stakes. He has a penalty for that win and stablemate Sarangani is in fact favourite making his debut. Another well related one being a half-brother to Group performers Manobo and Turgenev, this one is certainly worth noting as well. At the prices it is a race to watch rather than punt in though.

Best bet for the horse racing at Southwell

There is one race I can have a bet in on Thursday and that is the 1.55 at Southwell the 6f Betway Median Auction Maiden Stakes. Having watched the race back I was really quite taken with the debut run of Shin Saw Gyi at Chelmsford City earlier this month. She blew the start and was green early but she knuckled down under Hollie Doyle when she realised what was required running on well to finish second. Hollie rides again and provided the filly has learnt for the experience she should go well here, the three furlong run-in likely to suit her coming late again. She is short enough at 13-8 overnight but I am on.

Be lucky
